“Ante todo, se trata de dejar una marca de mi existencia: estuve aquí. Tuve hambre. Fui vencido. Fui feliz. Estuve triste. Me enamoré. Tuve miedo. Tuve esperanza. Tuve una idea y un buen propósito y por eso hice obras de arte”. Félix González-Torres.

“Me llegaron todas las preguntas en un mismo sobre, todas. Este proyecto es una respuesta y una certeza a la pregunta ¿Quién soy? Nací después del temblor. No lo viví, pero le tengo miedo. He llegado a la conclusión que soy una historia no sólo escrita por mí. Todos somos historia, somos suposición, somos investigación, somos desconocidos, somos carne, huesos y tripas, somos memoria, somos parientes, somos fantasía, somos individuos, somos de aquí pero nacimos allá, somos lo no vivido, somos nuevos y viejos en esto, somos consecuencia, somos proyecto, somos reclamos. Tenemos apellidos y no. Mentimos, aclaramos, reímos, no hablamos, lloramos, comemos, nos alejamos, nos buscamos, entonces… ¿somos familia? Dicen que familia es destino, ¿es? En México se abrió la tierra, se cayó el Centro Histórico, se murieron miles, se unieron muchos más, el gobierno tuvo miedo, la sociedad se organizó… y, junto a todo eso, María y Raúl se conocieron”. En Se rompen las olas, Mariana Villegas desentraña una historia para ella incierta: la historia de cómo sus padres se conocieron después del trágico y devastador terremoto de 1985 en la Ciudad de México y cómo, gracias a él, ella está viva.

Lagartijas Tiradas al Sol es una cuadrilla de artistas convocados por Luisa Pardo y Gabino Rodríguez. Desde 2003 desarrollan proyectos como mecanismo para vincular el trabajo y la vida, para borrar fronteras. Su trabajo busca dotar de sentido, articular, dislocar y desentrañar lo que la práctica cotidiana fusiona y pasa por alto. “No tiene que ver con el entretenimiento, nuestro espacio es un espacio para pensar”, afirman.

Hasta el momento el grupo ha realizado ocho proyectos escénicos: Ésta es la historia de un niño que creció y todavía se acuerda de algunas cosas (2003-2005); Noviembre (2005); Pía (2005-2006); Asalto al agua transparente (2006-2011, obra invitada al Festival TransAmériques 2010 y Ganadora del Premio del Público en el Festival Impatience 2011 en París); En el mismo barco (2007-2008); Catalina (2009-2011, invitada al Festival TransAmériques 2010 y al Antic Teatre de Barcelona); El rumor del incendio (2010-2012, invitada al Kunstenfestivaldesarts Bruselas 2011, Festival TransAmériques 2011, Festival Escena Contemporánea Madrid 2012 y al Wiener Festwochen de Viena); Se rompen las olas (2012). A ellos se suma su más reciente trabajo, Montserrat (2012).

Actualmente Lagartijas Tiradas al Sol cuenta con el trabajo creativo de Luisa Pardo, Gabino Rodríguez, Marcela Flores, Francisco Barreiro, Mariana Villegas, Carlos Gamboa, César Ríos, Yulene Olaizola, Harold Torres y Juan Leduc.

“Above all, this is about leaving a sign of my existence: I was here. I was hungry. I was defeated.

I was happy. I was sad. I fell in love. I was afraid. I was hopeful. I had an idea and a good proposal, and that is why I made works of art.” Félix González-Torres.

“All of the questions arrived in a single envelope, all of them. This project is a response to and an affirmation of the question: Who am I? I was born after the earthquake. I did not experience it, but I am afraid of it. I have arrived at the conclusion that I am a story that was written not only by me. We are all stories, suppositions, investigations, unknowns, flesh, bone and guts, we are memory, we are relatives, we are fantasy, we are individuals, we are from here but were born over there, we are what was not experienced, we are new and old at this, we are consequence, we are project, we are complaint. We have last names, and we do not. We lie, explain, laugh, are speechless, cry, eat, distance ourselves, seek, and so…are we family? They say that family is destiny. Is it? In Mexico the earth opened up, the Historic Downtown crumbled, thousands died, many more came together, the government felt fear, society organized itself…and, along with all that, María and Raúl met.” Mariana Villegas.

In Se rompen las olas, Mariana Villegas unravels what is for her an uncertain story: the story of how her parents met after the tragic and devastating earthquake in Mexico City in 1985 and how that event is responsible for her existence.

Lagartijas Tiradas al Sol is a group of artists brought together by Luisa Pardo and Gabino Rodríguez. Since 2003 they have been developing projects as a way of linking work and life, to erase borders. Their works seek to instill meaning, articulate, dislocate and unravel what everyday experience melds together and passes over. “It is not about entertainment, ours is a space for thinking,” they affirm.

To date, the group has carried out eight theatre projects: Ésta es la historia de un niño que creció y todavía se acuerda de algunas cosas (2003-2005); Noviembre (2005); Pía (2005-2006); Asalto al agua transparente (2006-2011, work invited to the 2010 Festival TransAmériques and winner of the Audience Choice Award at the 2011 Festival Impatience in Paris); En el mismo barco (2007-2008); Catalina (2009-2011, invited to the 2010 Festival TransAmériques and to the Antic Theatre in Barcelona); El rumor del incendio (2010-2012, invited to the 2011 Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Brussels, the 2011 Festival TransAmériques, the 2012 Festival Escena Contemporánea in Madrid, and the Wiener Festwochen in Vienna); and Se rompen las olas (2012). The company’s most recent work is Montserrat (2012).
