Población arenera narrates a series of events that occur in a shantytown that existed on the shores of the Mapocho River in the 1940s. It is the year in which the town celebrates its first decade of existence… «Not just anyone reaches two digits, sweetie», as the ultra-famous Marta a la carta would say, «so we’ll even have to drink the water from the river.»

Charolo Moyano is a promising boxer preparing for his debut in the big leagues, a passion that he finances with his work in the official newspaper in spite of his openly-declared empathy for social justice. His sudden disappearance, just days away from the shantytown’s anniversary and his debut at the Club Mexico, places at the forefront the political persecution that existed at the time and how information was handled, to which we continue to be exposed to this day.

A combination of characters that populate the local fauna, presents us with a story of struggle, lots of humor, strength, hope, treason, and other spicy tidbits that help us look at the reality of a bygone era, easily comparable with our times, portraying what life is about when poverty is the yoke that very few can, or allows them to, escape.

WRITER AND DIRECTOR
