Juan Cristóbal, casi al llegar a Zapadores uses the theater to examine what is borne of materials, documents, and stories of two very unique women, aged 72 and 68. They have been neighbors in the Recoleta area for almost 40 years, living just 25 paces apart. Not only do they share their secrets, their stories, and their neighborhood; they are also the director’s grandmothers. Theirs shall be the task of taking the lead roles in their own stories, with the help of two musician-actors and an on-stage film-maker.

A production that eludes conventional dramatic structures, working from the idea of a ‘living museum’, a place filled with the remains of what was, details that tell the story of what is private and commonplace; the passing of time over two anonymous women, and how these fragments move between reality and fiction, finally building a shared identity.

WRITER AND DIRECTOR

La Laura Palmer, a group formed around actors Jorge Arecheta and Ítalo Gallardo, started its life as a space to develop the art of storytelling in a creative and novel manner. Its work centers on building ways to position the audience before a story on the stage, before an experience that invokes questions more than it provides certainties. The group seeks to develop its own language of the stage, strongly influenced by the power of the cinema. It addresses its goals from a solid grounding of theoretical investigation, creating fertile ground to create theater and to think about space for representation as a unique site to develop idea-theater. The company’s productions include Nosotros (2008 – 2009), La espera (2010), Doblevé cé (2011), Juan Cristóbal, casi al llegar a Zapadores (2012), and Fragmentos de un discurso amoroso (currently under development).

COMPANY
