• Hasta el domingo 20 de enero, Santiago será la mayor vitrina de exhibición y comercialización de artes escénicas de Latinoamérica, creando una instancia de intercambio entre artistas, observadores y programadores de Chile y el extranjero.

• En la Semana de Programadores habrá también un sesión de work in progress con las obras No alimentar a los humanos de la compañía Teatro de Chile e Histoire d’amour de Teatro Cinema.

• En esta edición, Fundación Teatro a Mil firmará un convenio con el Ministerio de Cultura de Perú, con la intención de visibilizar y difundir las propuestas de creadores escénicos chilenos y peruanos.

Santiago, 15 de enero de 2013. El Festival Internacional Santiago a Mil cumple 20 años con el objetivo de difundir e impulsar las artes escénicas de nuestro país. Desde la creación del Festival en 1994, parte de esa misión ha consistido en fomentar la circulación de obras a nivel nacional e internacional. Esa es la intención de la Semana de Programadores, que comenzó bajo el nombre de Feria de Artes Escénicas (Fesur) en 2001, y que actualmente se ha convertido en una de las mayores plataformas de internacionalización para el teatro de Chile y Latinoamérica.

A partir del lunes 14 y hasta el domingo 20 de enero llegarán a Santiago alrededor de 140 programadores provenientes de todo el mundo. Pensada como un espacio de intercambio paralelo a la programación del Festival, la Semana de Programadores ofrece presentaciones de espectáculos de teatro y danza dispuestas especialmente para estos visitantes permitiéndoles ver hasta 3 espectáculos diarios, además de asistir a charlas y encuentros entre artistas y programadores. Durante estos días, Santiago se convierte en la mayor vitrina de exhibición y comercialización de las artes escénicas latinoamericanas, en donde artistas pueden entrar en contacto con programadores de algunos de los teatros y festivales más importantes del mundo.

“Esta es una instancia para que el teatro local y latinoamericano cruce las fronteras y se integre al circuito internacional, pero también para que las artes escénicas lleguen a más ciudades de Chile. Este año nos reunimos bajo el lema ‘nuevos territorios para las artes escénicas’ e incluimos los mejores montajes recientes de Chile y también de Argentina, Brasil, México, Perú y Colombia”, señala Claudia Barattini, Directora de Asuntos Internacionales de la Fundación Teatro a Mil.

La Semana de Programadores finalizará el domingo 20 de enero, y para hacerlo de la mejor forma posible, la Fundación Teatro a Mil firmará un convenio con el Ministerio de Cultura de Perú, con el objetivo de dar mayor visibilización y difusión a las obras de creadores de ambos países. El acuerdo también buscará generar mayores redes de intercambio entre programadores peruanos y chilenos.

Así, el Ministerio de Cultura de Perú se suma a otras importantes instituciones que se han vinculado con la Fundación. Entre ellas, el Consejo Nacional de la Cultura y las Artes en Chile, el Ministerio de Cultura del Gobierno de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires (Argentina), el SESC de Sao Paulo (Brasil), el Gobierno de Puebla y la Universidad de Guadalajara (México).

Presencia internacional

Otra novedad de esta edición de la Semana de Programadores es que se ha invitado a instituciones públicas como observadores. Entre ellas, están institutos culturales binacionales, embajadas, municipios y ministerios, que se unen a programadores provenientes del exterior, entre los que destaca la gran participación de directores artísticos y productores de Francia, país invitado de honor de Santiago a Mil, con quince visitantes. También se destaca la participación de Alemania, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bélgica, Bolivia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Brasil, Canadá, Corea del Sur, Escocia, Eslovenia, Estados Unidos, Finlandia, Francia, Italia, México, Perú, Polonia, Portugal, Reino Unido, Suecia y Uruguay.

Entre los asistentes se encuentran Darío Loperfido, del Festival Internacional de Buenos Aires (Argentina); Gabriela Ricardes, Directora del Centro Cultural San Martín (Argentina); Brigitte Fürle, del Teatro Festpiekhaus de Viena (Austria); Christophe Slagmuylder, de Kunsten Festival des Artes (Bélgica); Jorn Weisbrodt, de Luminato Festival (Canadá); Marie-Hélène Falcon, del Festival TransAmeriques (Canadá); Ramón Simó, del Festival Grec (España); Joe Melillo, del Brooklyn Academy of Music (EE.UU.); Mark Murphy, de REDCAT (EE.UU.); Yolanda Cesta Cursach, del Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Chicago (EE.UU); Christophe Lemair, del Teatro La Ville (Francia); Krystyna Meissner, del Festival DIALOG (Polonia) y Mark Ball, del London Internacional Festival of Theatre (Reino Unido).

La semana de Programadores, organizada por el Departamento de Asuntos Internacionales de la Fundación Teatro a Mil, ha impulsado giras de más de treinta obras nacionales alrededor del mundo entre las que se destaca Villa+Discurso, Comida Alemana y Cristo, contribuyendo de esta manera a posicionar el talento local en el exterior. El año pasado, en el marco de la Semana de Programadores se cerraron acuerdos de alrededor de 700 mil dólares.

El fomento de la participación de programadores nacionales en otras ciudades de Chile tampoco ha estado ajena a esta iniciativa, y en ese sentido, el Consejo Nacional de las Artes ha sido fundamental. Este año ha aumentado la participación local en la Semana de Programadores, con visitas de representantes de teatros y centros culturales de ciudades como Frutillar, Valle del Elqui, Valparaíso, Coquimbo, Puerto Montt y Santiago. Para reforzar este contacto, en 2013 la Fundación Teatro a Mil inauguró una pasantía para programadores de regiones de Chile.

Durante la Semana de Programadores se presentarán las obras que estrenan durante el Festival: Cerca de Moscú, dirigida por Paulina García, y Escuela, creada por Guillermo Calderón para conmemorar los 40 años del golpe de Estado en Chile. También estará la coproducción internacional Discurso de un hombre decente, de la compañía colombiana Mapa Teatro.

En esta edición también se mostrarán como work in progress obras como No alimentar a los humanos, de la compañía Teatro de Chile; e Histoire d’amour de Teatro Cinema. También, desde Argentina se mostrará Comedia, de Juan Pablo Gómez.

Los participantes de la Semana de Programadores también están invitados a la conversación “20 años de teatro en Latinoamérica”, con Hedda Kage, Marco Antonio de la Parra, Darío Loperfido y Carmen Romero, que se realizará hoy martes 15 en el Centro Cultural Gam. El 17 de enero la promotora cultural Cristina King realizará un taller especial sobre cómo programar y formar audiencias. Finalmente, el 19 de enero se realizará una fiesta de clausura para celebrar los 20 años de Santiago a Mil.

• This year, Fundación Teatro a Mil will sign an agreement with the Peruvian Ministry of Culture in order to visibilize and disseminate the proposals of Chilean and Peruvian stage directors.

• Santiago a Mil is a project that adheres to the Cultural Donations Act and is presented by Minera Escondida (operated by BHP Billiton), organized by the Fundación Teatro a Mil, and supported by the National Council of Culture and the Arts. For the third consecutive year, the main stage of the Santiago a Mil Festival will be the Gabriela Mistral Center.

Santiago, January 15, 2013. The Santiago a Mil International Festival celebrates its twentieth anniversary, aiming to disseminate and foster the performing arts in our country. Since the creation of the Festival in 1994, part of its mission has consisted of promoting the circulation of plays both nationally and internationally. That is the intention behind the Presenters’ Week, which began under the name of Feria de Artes Escénicas – Fesur (Performing Arts Fair) and has become one of the most important platforms for internationalizing Chilean and Latin American theater.

Starting Monday, January 14th and until Sunday, January 20th, some 140 presenters from around the world will congregate in Santiago. Intended as an opportunity for exchange in parallel to the Festival’s performances, the Presenters’ Week offers theater and dance presentations especially programmed for these visitors, allowing them to see up to three performances per day, in addition to attending talks and meetings between artists and presenters. It is during this time that Santiago becomes the largest exhibition and commercial showcase of the performing arts in Latin America, where artists can get to meet with presenters of some of the most important theaters and festivals in the world.

“This is an opportunity for local and Latin American theater to cross borders and become part of the international circuit, but also for the performing arts to reach more cities across Chile. This year we adopted the slogan ‘new territories for the performing arts’ and we included the best recent productions from Chile as well as Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Colombia”, said Claudia Barattini, director of international affairs of the Fundación Teatro a Mil.

The Presenters’ Week ends on Sunday, January 20th, and will conclude with the signing of an agreement between the Fundación Teatro a Mil and the Peruvian Ministry of Culture to foster greater visibility and dissemination of productions from both countries. The agreement also seeks to generate more networks for exchange between Peruvian and Chilean presenters.

With this agreement, the Peruvian Ministry of Culture joins other important institutions that are connected with the Fundación. Some of these include the National Council of Culture and the Arts in Chile, the Ministry of Culture of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires (Argentina), the SESC from Sao Paulo (Brazil), the Government of Puebla and the University of Guadalajara (Mexico).

International Presence

Also new this year during the Presenters’ Week is that public institutions have been invited as observers. These include binational cultural institutions, embassies, municipalities and ministries which join presenters from abroad, and is highlighted by the important presence of 15 artistic directors and producers from France, the guest of honor this year at Santiago a Mil. Countries also participating are Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Scotland, Slovenia, South Korea, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States, and Uruguay.

Among the participants are Darío Loperfido, of the Buenos Aires International Festival (Argentina); Gabriela Ricardes, director of the San Martin Cultural Center (Argentina); Brigitte Fürle, of the Festspielhaus Theater of Vienna (Austria); Christophe Slagmuylder, of the Kunsten Festival des Arts (Belgium); Jorn Weisbrodt, of the Luminato Festival (Canada); Marie-Hélène Falcon, of the TransAmériques Festival (Canada); Ramón Simó, of the Grec Festival (Spain); Joe Melillo, of the Brooklyn Academy of Music (USA); Mark Murphy, of REDCAT (USA); Yolanda Cesta Cursach, of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Chicago (USA); Christophe Lemaire, of the Théâtre de La Ville (France); Krystyna Meissner, of the DIALOG Festival (Poland) and Mark Ball, of the London International Festival of Theatre (UK).

The Presenters’ Week, organized by the Department of International Affairs of the Fundación Teatro a Mil, has promoted tours of more than 30 national productions around the world, of which stand out Villa+Discurso, Comida Alemana and Cristo, contributing in this way to positioning local talent abroad. Last year, agreements were closed for approximately US$700,000 during the Presenters’ Week.

Fostering the participation of national presenters in other cities across Chile has also kept in step with this initiative and, in this respect, the National Council of the Arts has been fundamental. This year, local participation in the Presenters’ Week increased, with visits from representatives of theaters and cultural centers from Frutillar, the Elqui Valley, Valparaíso, Coquimbo, Puerto Montt and Santiago. In order to strengthen this contact, in 2013 the Fundación Teatro a Mil launched an apprenticeship for presenters from Chilean regions.

Coproductions, 2013 premieres  and much more

During the Presenters’ Week, plays will be shown that premiered during the Festival such as Cerca de Moscú, directed by Paulina García, and Escuela, created by Guillermo Calderón to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the coup d’état in Chile. Also to be performed is the international coproduction, Discurso de un hombre decente, of the Colombian company Map Teatro.

This year also brings plays as works in progress such as No alimentar a los humanos, of the company Teatro de Chile, and Histoire d’amour of Teatro Cinema. And from Argentina, the work in progress Comedia, of Juan Pablo Gómez, will also be shown.

Participants of the Presenters’ Week are also invited to the conversation “20 years of theater in Latin America”, with Hedda Kage, Marco Antonio de la Parra, Darío Loperfido and Carmen Romero, to be held today, January 15^th at the GAM Cultural Center. On January 17^th, the cultural promoter Cristina King will hold a special workshop on how to present and form audiences. Finally, on January 19^th a closing party will be held to celebrate the twenty years of Santiago a Mil.
