El Primer Gesto construye un universo intrincado que se transforma constantemente, los cuerpos habitan, delimitan, tensionan, cortan y dibujan el espacio, lo mueven y se mueven en la geografía imaginaria resultante. El primer gesto tiene como punto de partida el deseo de movilidad ininterrumpida y electrizada de los cuerpos como manifestación física de los rincones y paisajes de la mente de la coreógrafa.

La pieza fue creada en residencia en el Parque Cultural de Valparaíso lugar donde realiza su estreno y primera temporada en octubre 2012, con funciones posteriores en los Teatros Municipales de Casablanca y Quillota, y una temporada en la Sala Agustín Siré del Departamento de Teatro de la Universidad de Chile en Santiago.

Carmen Beuchat, reconocida como una de las principales exponentes de la danza post modernista americana y una coreógrafa incombustible, es una gran representante del oficio dancístico, aclamada como bailarina, intensa como maestra y formadora de varias generaciones de bailarines y coreógrafos en Chile y en los Estados Unidos, principalmente en Nueva York donde residió largamente. Radicada en Valparaíso desde hace 8 años, centra su trabajo en estudios kinético-musculares de corte formalista, los que no dejan nunca de estar teñido por su interés temático de homenajear a la vida.

Formada en la Universidad de Chile, integra el Ballet Nacional Chileno bajo dirección de Ernst Uthoff. A fines de los años sesenta viaja a EEUU y se radica en Nueva York donde integra la compañía de Trisha Brown y forja su lenguaje post moderno; colaborando además con Kei Takei, Barbara Dilley, Steve Paxton, Simon Forty y Robert Raushemberg.

Recibe dos Nacional Endowment for the Art. El año 2012 recibe una medalla de excelencia del Consejo Nacional de la Cultura y las Artes tras ser homenajeada en la celebración nacional del Día Internacional de la Danza.

En Chile ha formado a innumerables coreógrafos y bailarines. El año 2004 se radica en Valparaíso conformando su actual elenco, siendo sus últimos montajes Pliegues y

Despliegues (Fondart 2008), Especie Sola (Fondart 2010) y El Primer Gesto (Fondart 2012), las que han sido presentados en Valparaíso, Cartagena, Punta Arenas, Puerto Montt, Valdivia, Talca, Coyhaique, Calama, Casablanca, Quillota y Santiago.

La obra reúne a 4 intérpretes de danza, dos de ellas discípulas de la maestra, Carolina Escobillana, Daniela Villanueva sumando a la bailarina Mariella Valdebenito, que junto a Rocío Rivera, directora de la Compañía Mundo Moebio, suman en movimiento aportes y visiones.

La música es obra de un intenso trabajo de improvisaciones que lentamente se constituyen en la banda sonora creada e interpretada por Miguel Jáuregui, productor del sello independiente Epa Sonidos, junto al experimentado Lucax Santana, improvisador de vasta trayectoria en Chile y el extranjero.

Al equipo suma la labor de Iván Sánchez, director, diseñador y gestor de Artes Escénicas Contemporáneas de larga trayectoria, quién se encarga de construir el espacio lumínico de la pieza.

El Primer Gesto builds an intricate universe that is constantly changing; the bodies inhabit, delimit, stress, cut and draw the space. They move it and move around the resulting imaginary geography. The first gesture has as starting point the desire for theelectrified and seamless mobility of bodies as a physical manifestation of the places and landscapes in the mind of the choreographer.

The piece was created in residence at Valparaiso Cultural Park, the same place where it was premieredwith a first season in October 2012, with subsequent performances in the Municipal Theatres of Casablanca and Quillota, along with a season in Room Augustine Siré from the Theatre Department of Universidad de Chile, in Santiago.

Carmen Beuchat , recognized as one of the leading exponents of American post-modernist dance and incombustible choreographer, is a great representative of the dance profession. Being acclaimed as a dancer, intense teacher and trainer of several generations of dancers and choreographers in Chile and the United States, mainly in New York where she lived for a long time. Based in Valparaiso for 8 years, she focuses her work on formalist kinetic-muscle studies, which never fail to be pervaded by her thematic interest in honoring life.

Taughtat the Universidad de Chile, Beuchat joined the Chilean National Ballet under the direction of Ernst Uthoff. In the late sixties, she travels to the U.S. and settled in New York where sheintegrates Trisha Brown’s company, thusshaping his postmodern language. She also collaborated with Kei Takei, Barbara Dilley, Steve Paxton, Simon Forty and Robert Raushemberg .

Carmen Beauchat has been awarded with two National Endowment for the Arts. In 2012, she received a medal of excellence from the National Council for Culture and the Arts after being honored at the national celebration of the International Dance Day.

In Chile, she has trained countless dancers and choreographers. In 2004 she moved to Valparaiso where she formsher current cast, being her latest productionsPliegues y Despliegues (Folds and Unfolds, Fondart 2008 ), Species Sola ( Alone Species, Fondart 2010) and El Primer Gesto(The First Gesture,Fondart 2012) , which have been staged in Valparaiso, Cartagena , Punta Arenas, Puerto Montt , Valdivia , Talca, Coyhaique , Calama , Casablanca, Quillota and Santiago.

The work brings together 4 dance performers; two of them disciples of the Master – Carolina Escobillana and Daniela Villanueva- together with dancer Mariella Valdebenito. The latter, along with Rocio Rivera -director of the World Company Moebio- added their contributions and views in motion.

The music is the result of an intense improvisation work that slowly turned into the soundtrack created and performed by Miguel Jáuregui, producer of the independent record label Epa Sounds, together with experienced Lucax Santana, an improviser with wide experience in Chile and abroad.

The work of Ivan Sanchez is added to the team. Sanchez is a director, designer and Contemporary Performing Arts managerwith a long career, who is responsible for building the luminous space of the piece.

Un ramo de flores envuelto en papel de diario, desata y despliega el camino de una coreografía llena de ficciones e imaginarios poéticos.

KiM TeatroFísico propone un espectáculo de danza con músicas y devociones sudamericanas y del mundo, en donde la materialidad del espectáculo está creado desde el reciclaje más simple: el papel que ya se usó, que ya se leyó, que se empacó, se botó, se rompió, se olvidó, se amontonó… re utilizándolo para crear una coreografía vital en un universo visual y metafórico.

Elías Cohen (Chile 1973): Director teatral, investigador somático y bailarín. Realizó sus estudios de teatro y danza en Dinamarca, India  e Israel. En Chile realizó estudios de Psicología Transpersonal (U. Católica) y Biología del Conocimiento (Instituto Matriztico), bajo la dirección de Humberto Maturana.  Director Artístico de KiM TeatroFísico  y KiM Performance Platform  en Berlín, Alemania y Sudamérica. Como docente ha desarrollado su visión artística en universidades e instituciones de Chile, Brasil, India, Corea del Sur y Alemania. Sus trabajos teatrales y de danza han sido invitados en Sudamérica, Europa y Asia.

KiM TeatroFísico, es un ensamble artístico/ zona de exploración/ un lugar de encuentro/ una red en crecimiento para instancias de entrenamiento, investigación,  creación y evolución del camino del Performer y del teatro físico contemporáneo.

Los proyectos de KiM (Kosmos in Movement) apuntan esencialmente a vivenciar las diversas dimensiones del Ser. En KiM, el cuerpo es el Kosmos, un camino de entendimiento de lo humano y de creatividad poética.

A bunch of flowers wrapped in newspaper unfolds into a choreographic path filled with poetic imaginings and fictions.

KiM TeatroFísico creates a show of music and dance with its roots in South American and world cultures, creating the raw material for the performance from the simplest of resources: paper already used, newspaper, packing paper, thrown away, torn, forgotten, piled up… reused to create a choreography full of life in a visual and metaphorical universe.

Elías Cohen (Chile 1973): Theatre director, physical movement expert, and dancer. Trained in theatre and dance in Denmark, India, and Israel. In Chile, studies in Transpersonal Psychology (U. Católica) and Biology of Knowledge (Instituto Matriztico), under the direction of Humberto Maturana.  Artistic director of KiM TeatroFísico and KiM Performance Platform in Berlin, Germany, and in South America. As a teacher, he has developed his artistic vision at universities and institutions in Chile, Brazil, India, South Korea, and Germany. His theatre and dance works have appeared as guest performances in South America, Europe, and Asia.

KiM TeatroFísico is an arts ensemble/ exploration zone/ meeting point/ growth network for activities in training, research, creation, and evolution on the path of the performer and contemporary physical theatre.

The projects undertaken by KiM (Kosmos in Movement) are united in their goal of making experiences from the different dimensions of Being. In KiM, the body is the Kosmos, a pathway of understanding the human condition and poetic creativity.
